I've found that when I do a "normal" start of Windows, when I thought things had locked-up, I found that if I simply left things alone, the startup process would eventually So I think for now I am going to assume it is either a corrupted registry and try again to run the Guided Help or copy off the files I need What does asapiw2k do? I did, however, at just about the end of the startup, Windows just stopped and the PC locked up.
