I'd still give 8.0.3 cs2 a shot though. Thanks. External Drives will only be recognized when shut down the mac, disconnect the 002r and restart OSX. (Then they show up in Disk Utility and finder) I think the problem is I had the same issue on a brand new Mbox and had to return it for them to replace the firewire inside the box.

It is not a driver issue, not lack of digitally signed issue, don't mess with the advance bios (F8) when you boot up, don't touch the driver settings.
