After ages of playing around I realised that the incorrect drivers where installed, even tho everything looked to be working perfectly in device manager and I had tried several other drivers. Since the drives were on vista and then imported into win 7 it might just be a permissions problem. sob initially i've tought that modding a bios by hand was the problem… but then i've updated the bios drivers to the latest VHDL drivers from nvidia for the raid controller. with no luck.
it runs like a charm, times better than vista, more fast and… native support to VHDs! to get it running completely. the problem is: windows 7 requires the raid firmware to be at least at version 5.60 in order to be installed. i've discovered that others nForce 4 boards from other manifacturer has been mantained untill 5.60 (and i've notice of one that have reached 5.61!) so by googling i've found that gigabytes this contact form The time now is 04:06 PM.

Pull the Vista drivers from in there. check out to see if you are in the group that owns the raid volume.
